Tsuen Wan Town Hall | Pop Concert by Long String Music Development Centre
Description
Lisa Wong was a household name in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia in the 1970s, earning the title of 'Singapore's Cantonese Diva'. With her sweet voice and clear diction, Lisa Wong's interpretation of songs pulls at the heartstrings of her listeners. She made her debut in 1969 and has since recorded numerous Mandarin and English albums for Singapore's 'White Crane' and 'Five Luck' records. In 1972, she switched to 'Stars' Records', marking the beginning of her Cantonese music career. Her song 'Tears of Longing', with lyrics by Kwok Ping-kin and the main melody adapted from Zhou Xuan's classic 'Longing in All Seasons', took the Chinese-speaking world by storm upon its release. It became an instant hit, with everyone on the streets humming the tune. That same year, Lisa Wong was named one of the top ten singers in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan by the 'Singapore Herald'.
With her newfound fame, Lisa Wong not only covered Cantonese pop songs from the 1950s and 1960s but also adapted well-known Mandarin, Cantonese, and English songs of the time, adding new concise lyrics. Her songs, such as 'Love at the Hundred Flower Pavilion', 'Chasing the Moon and Colours', and 'Red Bean Longing', were immensely popular, breaking sales records and causing a sensation in the Chinese music industry, unprecedented at the time.
At the peak of her career, Lisa Wong was not only a talented singer but also a skilled pianist with a deep understanding of music theory and a qualified beauty professional. She embodied excellence in both her talents and character, truly deserving of the title of 'Singapore's Diva' bestowed upon her by the people of Hong Kong. In 1975, Lisa Wong made a sudden retreat from the entertainment industry, but her business ventures did not go as planned. In 1989, she faced another challenge as she fell into a coma that lasted 11 years. It was not until 2000 that she gradually recovered, emerging into a world that had changed drastically. Lisa Wong faced these challenges with courage and resilience, a true artist.
With a professional spirit, Lisa Wong made a fresh start in 2008, returning to Hong Kong several times to perform with her old partner, the 'Cantopop Prince' Cheng Jin-chang, reigniting the popularity of their classic songs. In 2015, at the invitation of renowned stage director Ko Chi-sum, she starred in the musical 'Believe in the Future', personally narrating the story of a legendary diva's life. In 2017, after a year of preparation, Lisa Wong collaborated with 'Galaxy Entertainment' for the first time, presenting two immensely successful concerts: 'The Best of Lisa' and the 2024 'Lisa Wong: A Lifetime of Love and Tears in Concert'.
In July 2026, Lisa Wong returns by popular demand for another concert that music lovers will not want to miss!
